WHAT IS WEIGHTED JACKET – JACKET is a unique weighted vest that has been quilted (filled) with weight pellets to provide additional weight to the garment. The weight pellets are evenly spread all over which makes it comfortable for young ones to wear and the uniform distribution provides deep pressure (proprioceptive inputs) to his/her joints n muscles. This sensory input is well known to be calming n keeps children more organized n focused.
Weighted jackets are often recommended by professionals as a part of a comprehensive sensory diet to help children with Attention deficit disorder (ADHD) who have s ensory processing disorder n r facing challenges in self-regulation.
Studies suggest to use 5-10% of a person’s body weight n not to go beyond 15% of total weight , this is important as you do not want to overstrain their bodies with more weight than what is safe. Too much weight in a Jacket can result in over-stimulation and/or back injury.
